Villages & Cities

Villages & Cities

Marseille

The vibrant city of Marseille is the oldest city in France with a history that goes back to ancient Greece, about 600 BC. Here you can stroll along the Old Harbour which is the natural centre and where you can find lots of restaurants and bars. Visit the magnificent old church Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde, the symbol of Marseille, which has a breathtaking overview of Marseille and The Mediterranean Sea. The city has an international and charming ”Marsellaise” atmosphere, a lot like New York actually!

Aix-en-Provence

Aix-en-Provence is a major university city and the cultural centre in this part of Provence. The famous boulevard Cours Mirabeau is right in the centre of Aix and right next to that, the very picturesque Old Town where you can walk around, enjoying the markets, the cafés and bars and the nice, relaxed atmosphere.

Avignon

The historic city of Avignon is most known for the Palais de Papes in the Old Town. Seven different popes lived here during the 14:th century. Together with the cathedral and the Pont d ´Avignon, this area became an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. Nearby, you can find the village and area of Chateauneuf-du-Pape where the many vineyards make one of the most renowned and exclusive wines in the world.

Small villages and towns

With Rians as a starting point, there are many villages and towns that you can visit. As always, every place has its own character. Up on the Luberon plateau you can find villages like Roussillon with its ochre opencast right in the village centre and Gordes with its typical stone houses almost hanging of the steep cliffs. Going west, you´ll find Barjols with all its fountains and Cotignac with its cave like houses interspersed into the vertical mountain walls. If you take a tour down to the Mediterranean Sea, the French Riviera, you´ll find for example Cassis, famous for its exquisite seafood and Bandol with its fantastic rose wines.

All the places we´ve listed above are of course a selection of our favourite spots, we have a very good knowledge of the area surrounding Rians and we are happy to help you with more tips and suggestions to match the desires of your stay here.
